Guitar Connection reviews
61Brought my Martin D15 to Kelvin. The body shape was bent, the bridge about to give up… it wasn’t in good shape. Kelvin did an amazing job and really delivered over expectations. What I like working with him is that you can tell you work with a musician and an artist who loves his job. Give him proper amount of time for a job well done and you will be amazed by the result. For me it was like getting a brand new guitar. Thanks Kelvin, and see you again as soon as I need it (I have more guitars…)
Got a guitar upgrade for myself and I’m really glad to have met Kelvin! Very responsive and accountable. Experienced and recommended me a guitar that I liked immediately. He did the set up for me as well and very happy when I collected and tried playing the guitar as well! In the future, would definitely come back again to find him. Thanks kelvin for your efforts
Guitar bought: Martin X series
Got my Squier Classic Vibe strat serviced here and im happy with the results. The people there are really friendly and experienced. Recommend anyone to come take a look at their guitars there as well.
Heard about Guitar Connection through my guitar teacher who spoke highly of the amazing work that goes into restoring guitars here. True enough, the boss, Kelvin manages to diagnose the issues that were bugging my 10+ years old instrument. I was hesitant and concerned that its beyond salvaging but was reassured by the recommendations put forth.
Hearing the assured tone in his voice, I knew my guitar was in good hands. Kelvin took it upon himself to go above and beyond when I next heard his update that he went ahead to help touch it up further in addition to the initial issues; all out of goodwill and pure dedication to his craft to make every guitar that touches his hands shine.
Once I collected the guitar and played my first chords, it truly felt reborn and the strings easy on the fingers. Very appreciative of the work that went in and thankful that my music school referred me here to restore my guitar at such great value. Hopefully, my review too will convince someone to bring in their guitar and let Kelvin work his magic and give it a new lease of life.
I went on March 2020 and the experience was so cool. The staff/owner was so cool with it to do services in restringing my Jim Root Squier Telecaster from stock to 12-56 gauge and even file the nut for thicker strings to fit in.
Kelvin reset the necks of my approx 50 year old 12 string and 40 year old Ovation at less than half the cost of what I have been quoted elsewhere. He also glued for me the fret board of another 50 year old Ibanez and adjusted the nut. I have known Kelvin for 30 yrs and his experience equals speed and quality at a reasonable price which is important as I need to service 20+ guitars.
Bought a Synyster Gates custom 2007 model here at this store and the service was amazing. Serviced my guitar for free and gave me a case because I didn't have one. Absolutely amazing. 10/10
I went to Guitar Connection to get my new Ibanez acoustic guitar set up last month. I got it from Swee Lee and the action was uncomfortably high, especially at the higher frets.
Kevin evaluated my guitar and recommended sanding the bridge to lower the action. He estimated the job to be done with 2 hours. I left my guitar in his care and went out.
As he said, the guitar was ready within 2 hours. The action was noticeably lower and everything looked nice and smooth. Although there was some buzzing when I brought it home and placed a capo on the 7th fret and strummed, the buzzing disappeared after some time.
So yeah, Kevin seems to be really skilled and knows what he is doing. The only thing to note is that it may be a little pricey - my set up cost $90 for adjusting the bridge and saddle alone, without any new strings or further cleaning etc. (That's more than 10% of what my guitar costs)
This is my second repair with Kelvin. The first time was when he fix my classical guitar and make it playable again. This time I went to him to set up my Grand Concert Artwood Ibanez guitar from the 90s. He lowered the action by sanding the bridge (inadvertently revealing the fine looking wood underneath) and reshaped the saddle to get just the right curve. Through it all, I received photo updates of the process and that’s very assuring. Excellent attention to detail. Overall, happy with the set up and thumbs up to Kelvin and his crew at Guitar Connection. Well done.
He charge me $3 for a guitar switch tip without any packaging while next door selling at $1.50 with a packaging…. Very unreasonable…i wont go guitar connection to get any spare parts again…very disappointed….
Went to Kelvin to get my guitar serviced. Very friendly and knowledgeable about guitars, guitar felt alot better and easier to play after the servicing!
Went to Kelvin to get my guitar fixed, he replaced strings and also adjusted the action, he was able to fix it under 45 mins and did replace the battery for tuner without even asking and other small fixes without any charge. Professional who knows his craft
For repair job, Pricing will be higher than other shops in the mall.
My guitar was having a Fret buzzing noise.
The shop recommended me to do a Fret Leveling.
I paid 220 SGD for it all 22 Frets job + new strings.
You will find this job quoted at 80 SGD (without new strings) in some other shops within the mall.
I am not unhappy with the job done as it seems great however some might not be ready to pay this price.
Communication can be a bit difficult at first with the owner if you are a Novice or if you bargain too much.
Would give a 0 if I can. Rude and arrogant owner. Literally any shops around it (swee lee, tymusic, or the shop literally right next to it) is so much better.
Went in looking around for some high-end guitars. Shop owner (i think) was super rude.
He just seemed to want me to buy something and leave asap. Any and every question I asked was just abruptly answered as though I was a waste of his time.
They’ve a great selection of PRS and Ibanez guitars but even then, I’d rather support music stores that actually respect their customers.
A true shame.
Great shop. Planning on make a purchase for kevin soon since he is welcoming. He has very good collection of guitars. Do check it out!
The staff there are quite rude. Overall an unpleasant experience. Customer service is not good hence I shall not return there.
The store is great, so far these guys have refretted my 83 Strat, done a great setup on my Gretsch and recently fixed a bridge issue on my acoustic. All guitars came back better than new!
They've also got an amazing selection of beautiful vintage guitars/pedals that you won't find anywhere else.
If you know what you're looking for and you appreciate good quality guitars then this is the place.
However if you're just looking for something cheap then look elsewhere.
Awesome place to trade-in/service/buy guitars. Kelvin really knows what he’s doing and did a beautiful job servicing my guitar. He even gave me a better deal because he understands the financial constraints I have as a student. To the comments saying Kelvin’s service is bad, he’s a straight talker okay, but once u get to know him, he’s really friendly and helpful guy:)
Looking for some vintage guitar with husband but was greeted by this arrogant and rude owner who thinks you can't afford anything. We wonder why would someone run a shop if he's not happy to serve anyone. Another shop has newer but more reasonable price.
