Cheng San Market & Cooked Food Centre reviews
59Come over to my old neighbourhood to buy fish, vegetables. The Yong tau Foo stall at the wet markets sells very nice fish paste Yong tau foo (6 in a box).
A great food selection there. Limitation is tables during peak hours and expect long Q (20mins) for some Real good foods. Plenty of car parks there.
Favourite marketplace with good wide variety of fresh produces. However, my favourite vegetarian stall is going on leave for 1 month!
Great place to go for breakfast or early lunch. Most stalls are closed or sold out by noon time. Recommended stalls include:
1. Yong tau Fu offering 50cents per piece
2. $3 Vegetarian kuay chap with tasty herbal soup available on Tues Thurs Sat. $3.50 for takeaway.
3. $3 Lontong, Mee Siam, Mee rebus offer by the stall which also sells porridge. Stall owner will pack the gravy separately for takeaway.
4. Prawn noodle soup with generous serving costing $3 only. Soup is also packed separately for take away.
5. Handmade fish ball noodles @ $4. The fishballs are springy bigger than fifty cents coin.
6. Shredded chicken noodles with wantons. Usually, I will order noodles with wantons only @$3.7. Fried Maggie Mee and bee hoon with fragrant garlicky taste and spicy chilli. The stall also offers ~$2 smooth and heart warming hongkong porridge. $1 curry puff are freshly cooked, the skin is comparable to ock's.
8. Economic rice (orange plate) with dishes with home cook taste that aren't overly salty nor overpriced.
I frequent this market as I live nearby. It has a great variety of both uncooked and cooked food. Morning would find it being a super bustling place with cooked food like chicken rice, kwai chup, carrot cake, bak chor mee, wan ton mee, mee reubus, malay food, prata alongside the uncooked stalls.
Good food, but it is too crowded and people who have finished theirs meal hang on to the limited tables for the sake of chatting.
Fantastic neighborhood market and food centre.with a wide choice of food choices. With quality.
Notable stalls are as follows
1. Lorong Ah Soo Porridge
2. Mei Yong Tau Hu
3. Poh Hua Coffee stall
4. Chew Kee Chicken Rice
5. Boneless Chicken Rice
6. Braised Duck Rice and Kway Chap
7. Nasi Padang
8. Song Kee Fish all Noodles
9. Herbal Soup
10. Char Kway Teow
Good food but I wouldn't dine-in. Majority of trays and tables are smelly/dirty as the cleaners do not wipe them down regularly.
Nothing interesting here, nothing worth to travel a distance to come here for. Caters to those staying around this area.quiet n dead place.
Some seats at the market will experience raining sipping from the roof. Pls take note. Thought the food are quite good but most of the stores will be closed by 2pm.
Been staying here for a decade and almost every breakfast my family ate, came from here.our favourites are the yongtaofoo, (first row) the teochew porridge (third row first stall), wanton mee (opposite facing third row) & the soya bean drink store (second row from last)!
Came in the afternoon and most of the shops are already closed. Maybe should come in the morning to see and shop at the market.
The market is huge and there are several other coffee shops nearby as well.
Tried the satay, it was great. Serving time not bad. Also I did try the cake, it was good.
The ba chor mie was very cheap. I saw there is one dish on the menu with $2 price. Haven't tried it yet since I went inside first and bought from the other stall instead. Will try next time visit.
Came to this hawker Center for late lunch and most of the stalls are closed. Tried this bcm and was not expecting much as I am not from this area. Was pleasantly surprise to find such a nice tasting BCM at $3 only. The perfect mix of chilli and sauce with the noodle is so enjoyable. Liver and meat was just cook right and ingredient all taste fresh. Will definitely add liver for my next visit here. Good find.
The market is not quite clean. Need improvement especially the food courts. Many of the chairs dirty and the place are smelly. The washing basins are dirty and not tidy with many used mobs and dirty buckets lying around.
My childhood market.lot of good food here.chix slice noodle, chicken rice, lor mee, prawn noodle soup, hokkian mee all my favourite.
01-148 fishball teochew noodle. Cheap n very gd. Beautiful stall owner, charging as low as $2 for a bowl, benefitting a lot of old folks there.bless his soul.
Hawker centre with good food and a market. There's also 2 roasted meat stalls in the market if you crave honeyed pork, roasted pork, duck meat and other roasted goods.
The chay just teow is the best I have eaten. Price at $3.00 and $4.00. Quantity is value for money. Ask for just lard pieces. The uncle is friendly and courteous. Closed on Tuesday. Do not go after 2.00 pm as it is likely that he is packing up to rest. I do not eat the fried just teow near my home now after discovering this stall recently.
It is a hawker with plenty of traditional options. Especially the vegetarian food stall and the kway chap stall, my favourite choices
Limited parking space. Good foods such as Hainanese chicken rice at the centre of the hawker, dim sum, Teochew porridge, soya bean and herbal soup.
